Independent, on purpose

1 minute — read aloud by UNA's narrator, a synthetic voice

The written story is below, whenever you'd like it.

The audio couldn’t start here — the read-along below holds every word.

I get asked, kindly, when UNA is going to grow. Raise money, hire fast, move loud. The honest answer is: slowly, and only as much as the promise requires.

UNA holds people’s tenderest things. That kind of trust isn’t built by racing to hit numbers. It’s built by staying close enough to the work to feel the weight of every decision about your record — and by having no one else to answer to. No venture capital, no board of directors. The only people with a claim on UNA are the ones who trust it with their stories.

Independence is a feature. It means the person reading your note to support is the same person who designed the place you wrote it. It means no investor will ever ask me to make your memories more “engaging,” and no acquirer will ever inherit your words as an asset.

UNA will grow when growing helps you keep better. Not before. That’s the promise, and staying independent is how I keep it.
